In 2014, LAWA offered a total of 506 hours of education and training courses to employees on varied topics such as, effective communication, workplace discrimination policies, interview strategies, and more.
In 2014, a total of 1600 employees participated in the annual Health Fair & Employee Appreciation Day at LAX.

LAWA equipped all LAX passenger gates with plug-in power and pre-conditioned air. Parked planes do not need to use auxiliary power units, which consume jet fuel. This improvement is more energy efficient and minimizes air quality impacts at LAX.
LAWA currently has 48 publicly available EV charging stations at its various parking lots at LAX and will install an additional 49 chargers in the coming year.

Local Communities
The First Source Hiring Program made 2,150 referrals to companies doing business at LAX in 2014. Of these referrals, 180 individuals were hired.
In 2014, 75 students interned with LAWA through the Gateways Program.
The Job Training Program referred 69 individuals, of which 44 completed training through the program in 2014.
75 LAWA employees volunteered through the Team LAWA program in 2014. The Team LAWA program provides communities service through activities such as Friends of the LAX Dunes habitat restoration work, beach clean-ups, assisting participants in the L.A. Marathon, fundraising for March of Dimes, decorating floats for the New Year’s Day Rose Parade, and others.
Material Resources Management
LAWA diverted 67% of waste produced at LAX from the landfill or incinerator in 2014. Over 25,000 tons of materials were reused, recycled or source reduced at LAX in 2014, which is equivalent to the weight of 43 fully-loaded A-380 jumbo jets at takeoff.

Tenant Partnerships
Almost 74,000 military personnel and their families visited the Bob Hope USO at LAX during 2014 and were provided with complimentary sandwiches, snacks, and beverages, along with amenities such as showers, nap rooms, high-speed internet, TV with a wide selection of DVDs and CD’s, and more.

The installation of new fixtures has improved potable water use efficiency in the LAX terminals by saving an average 1.25 gallons per flush. This translates to a 22 percent reduction of potable water use per unit.
